Fontana Police Department plans to bring in many more officers
For many years, city officials in Fontana have been focused on providing plenty of resources for the Police Department, and that trend is continuing in 2022.
About 60 percent of the city's General Fund budget goes to the Police Department, according to the city's annual report.
Officials said the emphasis on supporting police has been well-placed, because crime has declined in the city in recent years.

Fontana is ranked one of the safest cities in California
A new report ranks Fontana as one of the safest cities in California.
The report, compiled by Safewise, ranks Fontana 17th among cities in California, with violent crime (2.8 incidents per 1,000 population) and property crime (13 per 1,000) both well below the state averages (4.2 and 25.3 per 1,000).
Seventy-seven cities met the criteria to be considered for ranking, Safewise said.

Fontana ranks among Top 10 cities in U.S. for personal income growth
Fontana ranks among the Top 10 cities in the United States for personal income growth, according to a new report by SmartAsset.
Using U.S. Census Bureau data, the financial services firm found that median household income in Fontana grew from $80,800 in 2019 to $93,851 in 2021, a 16.15 percent increase. That’s more than five times the rate of median household income growth across the nation during that period.
Fontana was listed at No. 9 among the 124 large cities (defined as having a population of 200,000 or higher) that were studied by SmartAsset.

City of Fontana is staying on solid financial footing
Many people are concerned about the state of the economy because of various factors, including inflation, rising interest rates, and the recent difficulties experienced by some banks.
But at the City of Fontana, the financial picture looks good and is anticipated to stay positive in the years to come, according to a recent analysis.
In her Fiscal Year 2022-23 midyear budget report, Chief Financial Officer Jessica Brown said the city’s total year-end revenues will exceed the budget by $5.3 million.
